C'mon, guys! I'm running out of rope, and the gators be gettin' mighty hungry. I need to identify each printed file with a Banner sheet that indicates the file name being printed next. The apps are obviously handing off the info to the queue, 'cause it's displayed in all it's resplendant glory there (in the q). This should be pretty simple, but apparently it's weird science. And I'm finding my ass out in the cold again with NT. My buddies tell me I'm always trying to do weird shit. I'm just trying to help my boss help his clients with some pretty simple requests. My last post went straight into the toilet -- major GooseEgg response. There's gotta be an environmental variable for each Filename sent to the print queue. Maybe this is a job for Novell! Or Torvalds! Solaris? Bounty?

Check the web site for the printer that the jobs are going to. Some of them give the option to print banner.lst as Novell used to.

Try to slow down, here. What exactly are we trying to do?<br>

Maybe it's just me, but I am not clear to your meaning here.What exactly do you mean by a banner sheet?<br>

Not that its any of my business, but I think we could all do without the language. These forums may be monitored by some younger people and it would be a bad thing for them to tell their parents they learned their language skills from Tek-tips. <p>John D. By &quot;banner sheet&quot;, I meant separator sheet (NT offers a default &quot;pcl.sep&quot; having 13 switches for various effects on the separator sheet's layout) -- sorry, I was using old Netware lingo.<br>
<br>
What I want to do is precede each printed document with a separator sheet which identifies the document by file and pathname. The environment is a LAN; I don't need to work this across multiple sites on a WAN (not yet, anyhow).<br>

Dear John,<br>
<br>
Of course it is your business. This is as much your forum as it is mine.<br>
<br>
So, please accept my apology if I offended you. I was posting with some frustration with Microsoft's ineptitude and indifference. The venting of my fury came out sideways. I am sorry.<br>

I see Okay. Right off hand, I'm not sure how you would do this, but I will think it over and try a few things. If you find an answer to your problem, please post it here, otherwise, stay tuned to tek-tips and I am sure we can find SOME solution. Take care :)<br>

When I was looking into this problem, I found the following articles on the Microsoft support page:<br>
Q131714: Custom PCL Separator File Example<br>
Q102712: How to Create Custom Separator Page Files<br>
<br>
I don't know if this will help you because you don't say what kind of printer or printer language you're using.<br>
