Ok here is the low down.
I can't access some websites from the workstations on my domain, but I can access those same websites from the server.

I have a Windows 2000 Server with AD installed. Workstations are Windows 2000 Pro. Internet connection goes into server and out to network (no external router).

Everything had been working fine for the past year, then suddenly, this problem occured. No new software, no new hardware, no setting changes on the server, nothing. The workstations can ping the domain name and return the correct ip address, but when the domain OR the IP is typed into a browser (IE or FireFox) nothign is displayed. The page will eventually time out, but it takes much longer than normal (about 20-30 minutes)

I have reformatted my server and resetup the network. I have reformatted and re set up a workstation. Everything else is working fine, except for the websites on this one particular server. Once again, I can access it from the server, but not the workstations. No router / firewall / etc. And everything has been reformatted today. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. --Tom

just typing browser gives page can not be displayed...

Hosting company is NOT using a dynamic port..

Besides.. I have other sites on other servers with the same hosting company that work fine

the problem is the the http on the workstations for that one particular web server

I don't know this will help, in internet explorer option of workstation, under connection tab, make sure there is no check mark in all setting in LAN Settings button.

There are not setting check in Internet explorer under the connections tab under the LAN settings button

Well Gorillamonkey, I guess you have to shell out some money to Microsoft tech support. I've try my best and good luck .....

In an earlier life I ran into a similiar issue. However, I believe the DNS entry worked for us. What about adding an entry in the hosts file for the IP address?

I just tried that again... No luck

The name is resolving correctly to an IP address, just can't browse http on that one webserver from my network.

What happens when you use the ip address in the internet explorer address bar

The same thing as what happens when the name is typed in... It just sits there for several minutes... then eventually gives a page can not be displayed. It really takes a LONG time for the page cannot be displayed to come up though...
