Weird problem in opening OL2000 attachment 1

Greeting ALL:

Here's my problem:
First, my OL2k is set at Plain text.

I received an email with MS Word 2000 attachment. The attachment is embeded in the email message. There is no attachment icon. (I usually double click on the attachment icon to open up the attachment). The embeded "attachment" reads: {ref SHAPE \* MERGEFORMAT}. What does this means, and how can I view the embeded attachment? I even switch back and forth from plain text to RTF....still no joy.

Any suggestions?

My first instinct would say to have the person resend the doc as an attachment instead of embedded inside the email.
They might have done that by mistake.
