I'm trying to reduce the size of an archive to burn into a cd. After deleting off half of the documents, it still show me the original size of the database(900+ MB). I tried to do a compact but the process fails after 20% of compacting. I tried to copy and paste the documents into a new empty database but Lotus Notes just hangs on me. The database is version 4.67. Anyone can help, pls?

If you have deleted documents, then your db has to get smaller. You probably need to reindex the views.
I would open the db and do a CTRL-SHIFT-F9. I am sure that the db will get smaller after that.

Pascal.

Thanks for your help but it does not work. I did the reindexing and followed by a compacting but still the size shown is the original size.

Sorry yert33, but how do I do an nfixup? That archive is a local archive.

There is one error message "Document has invalid structure" that appears after compacting is terminated at 17%. Is there a way to fix this or can I find out which document is having this problem?

Right, you have a corrupt database. You need to get another copy from the server, or put it on a server and run a fixup on it.
I don't think you can do a fixup locally.

Pascal.

If I put it on a server, where do I run the fixup command to fix the database? Is there a particular location when I must place the database in?

The db goes in the root Data folder (like Domino/Data) for easy command typing.
You will need access to the server console, either physically or by remote.
When you get the console, type fixup <dbpath><dbname> and it should work. If you did put the db inthe root data, dbpath is void.

Pascal.

Alternatively, if you shut down the Domino server, you can run the fixup process from the command prompt. Like this:

c:\Domino>nfixup c:\Domino\data\archive.nsf

Notice the "n" in nfixup.

peace.

I tried running "fixup xxx.nsf" and "fixup c:\data\mail\xxx.nsf" with no luck. Both gave the same error message "command or option not recognized". My domino server is version 6 while the database is of version 4 template.

You may try to enter this command by MS'commend prompt, not Domino's.

Try making a new copy of the database file. Then replace the design on the file with either the same template (which would fill in any missing parts) or even a newer version of the same type of database. Even doing just a new copy can sometimes fix a problem and it may release some space.

This problem is probably caused by the database design rather then the data itsself.

We had some problem when we moved from 4.6 to R5. Many poeple had archive databases in 4.6 design but their mail was converted to R5 design. When they archived it currupted the design. Replacing the design on the archive with the newer mail template fixed the problem and allowed they to continue with the same file. Replacing design has worked for most of the design faults I've had.

but yert33 explicitly said:

Now, did you actually run nfixup and just not type it correctly in your post?

If I remember correctly you need to use "load fixup ..." from the Domino console or "nfixup ..." from the OS command prompt.

Yeah, you definately need the "Load" keyword when starting fixup form the console ....
