I'm considering to schedule a weekly defrag on a fast changing (from data point of view) user file systems - this is to improve the FS performance.
Does it make sense to anybody ?

Depending on what version of AIX kernel you run look at documentation for apar IY50790. We had a problem running 64 bit AIX 5.1 where defrag corrupted data on the file system. IBM directed me to this APAR but it never fixed the problem. We corrupted almost 60 gigs of production data from this bug. We currently have no problems running defrag on 32 bit machines. The first time we used it we witnessed a performance increase. These are just some opinions.

Howdy,

We ran into the same problem with defrag, but there was a problem with fsck also(APAR IY57292 ). We applied this apar and things appear fine now.
