We host a website on our corporate LAN, net connection is by leased line, access is controlled by MS Proxy Server 2. The server runs IIS4 and has 2 NIC's, one for the external connection to the web, one for internal connection to the LAN. The server crashed last week after installing SurfControl software and the only way to revive it was to format the HDD and re-install NT4, MS Proxy, NT Option Pack 4. All settings were replicated to what they were prior to the crash. Clients on the LAN can surf the web no problem, if they enter the IP address of the site we host, they connect to it, if they enter the they get a page cannot be displayed error message. When external clients enter the URL they too get the same message although the URL in the address box of their browser shows the correct address of our website. MS Proxy is installed on one server, the website on another.

I don't have enough IIS/Proxy experience to resolve this problem and would be gratefull for any pointers to identify and resolve the problem.

TIA

This sounds like a DNS problem, especially if you cn connect by IP but not by name.
