Hi,

Is anyone using webcasting (real time streaming) to the desktop on a cisco switched network as well as internationally on a wide area network?

Any pros /cons and things to consider before implementing this ? Also best products for this ?

Many Thanks,

Jay

The switched network being Cisco isnt going to matter much in the long run compared to any other product. Of course, streaming over the switched network will be a lot faster than the international stream You will have to put up with less hops, less congestion, etc etc. Depending how many clients your stream services is going to be how efficient it is. The more streams running, the more bandwidth it is going to eat up, the more congestion on your network.

cisco switches should support multicasting with igmp and cgmp. you will need to configure the routers to route multicasts betweeen subnets

on each routed interface

ip cgmp
ip pim spare-dense-mode

should get you up and running

then use

show ip mroute

show ip mroute active

to view the multicast routing paths.
