We have a Netware 5.1 server with sp2a that is exclusively our mail server and is running Groupwise 5.5 (not the enhancement pack).

The GWIA, POA, MTA are all at version 5.54 and running on this server. We only have 1 domain and 1 post office servicing 70 users' email. We are just starting to consider implementing WebAccess so we can access our email at home via the Internet.

My question is, can I install WebAccess on this same server, or do I have to have a separate web server? We have a SonicWALL Internet security appliance installed that provides a firewall for us, and I was also wondering that if I do install WebAccess on my email server, will this firewall provide enough security for our Internal LAN and email server from external Internet users?

We have WebAccess on our same e-mail server.

It didn't pose any problems for us as far as security goes (so far, knock on wood.) There were a couple of tricky install techniques we needed help from Novell for, but all is smooth now.

Our home users have updated virus protection and personal firewalls installed. Our relay is also closed.

We also have a Technologies Policy and Telecommuter Policy in place, and everyone has received training on the do's and don'ts of the Internet.

If you are going with web access I recommend the enhancement pack. It makes it a lot easier to use.

Depending on how busy your server is at the moment you might need to add some more ram in your server.

Thanks for the responses...I think we will be ok with our server's memory. It's a brand-new Dell PowerEdge 2500 with 512MB ram and out of the 70 or so users, only about 1/2 of those users get a lot of email traffic.

I am interested in hearing more about installing WebAccess and any problems I might anticipate when installing it after the email server is already in place with Groupwise already installed if anyone would like to share their experiences with this.

Also, I'm assembling info to justify upgrading to the enhancement pack...can anyone contribute the most important reasons to do so, especially in regards to webaccess?

Hi

Installation is not to complecated. Make sure before you start that you applied the latest patches. Have a dns entry for the server and follow the instructions.

The interface of the enhancement pack is so much better. It also enhances some features in your GW client. You have better support for HTML mail.

The best part is the tools to manage your whole GW system.

Web access is easier to use and it also has a wap client for your cell phone (although this can use some improvents)

Have you looked at GW 6. It has all of this buildin.

Let me know if this is any help

Cheers
