I setup a dns server with BIND using webmin and Mepis(linux). DNS is working so far cause i can recieve email and can go to my website if i use someone elses DNS server.

The problem that i have is when i use my dns server. I get a looking for website then after about a minute the website shows up. But sometimes it times out and i have to hit refresh to view the website. If i close the browser and open it up again the same thing happens. Any suggestions on where to start.

Thanks

To see if the problem is actually DNS, see how fast the name gets resolved. Use nslookup to query the remote web site's address. If it quickly returns a reply, then the problem is not with your DNS.

The fact that you have the same result after closing and reopening your browser further indicates that it is not DNS, because if you had actually resolved the name successfully the first time, both your Mepis server and your client workstation would have cached the successful DNS query and wouldn't have had to make another recursive query again.

But you also imply that you aren't having this problem when you use a different DNS server. Is that true?

What do you have set as a secondary DNS server? Could it be that querying your server fails every time and that once it switches to the secondary, the name gets resolved?

I thought about the whole thing about it fails on the first dns and the second dns picks it up. So i changed my second dns to a I address that has aboslutely nothing to do with a dns server that way only one dns server is used, and still same symptoms. And yes if i use a dns server from the ISP or another dns server out in the world it works just fine. It only gives me problems with my dns server.
