Looking for some feedback on a scenario:

Multiple copies of the same web application exist under different domains. The application is designed to periodically check back with the "mothership" web site to determine if any of the ASP pages have been updated.
If an update exists...the Admin is given the choice to download/apply the update.

What security and/or technology challenges are presented by this scenario ? (or is it just simply create the necessary ASP code to back up the file and then copy the new file from the "mothership" site ??)

why not just keep one set of code an the other domains just reference that domain name? this way you are only updating just one code set and not having to worry about updating/moving/coping files.

Each site has the potential to be somewhat different via user customization thru a fixed set of possible options.

In such a scenario how would you're suggestion best be implemented ? What impact would it have on performance ?
