Web site link failures

Can't find other forums that cater. Have recently had to totally re-install OS and software twice. Now proceeding slowly to add on, but run into problem can't solve. Have ME, IE 5.5 but OE 6. I could not get certain links on certain web sites, for instance could not link into my account with PayPal or with my ISP account or get ME update to accept me. This happened when IE was the latest version, so used Ieradicater from prolite and then went 5.5 but just the same problem. I have the disk for the 98 LitePro but do not want to complicate the issue since computer still in simple format and want to go slowly on build up rest of programmes. My patience just holding for the Cavalry to arrive.

When you say "link" do you mean login? If so, empty your browser cache/cookies, then go to security tab in internet options. Try setting the security level to low. If this works, then its one of the settings in the security tab, and you can customize it until you find which one it is.

Also, you did a clean install and then hit this problem, and rolled ie back to 5.5? I'd just do another clean format, its not going to take you that long...

And I don't know why you bring up the fact you have a 98 lite disk, unless you're considering going to 98?

will empty any IE just leaving the architecture for another download same/different version IE. The 98 litepro 4.7a structures IE so you can choose what elements you want to use. Found IE a pain in the neck and source so many problems. Yes, I think should have used logon or login, because in all cases entering another zone. Have reduced security setting already. Yes did clean install, then used Ieradicater, then loaded 5.5 from disc. Will go through your suggestions now. I browse forum a lot, sometimes print good info. and somehow at the back of my mind there is a niggle that I have heared this before. Thanks, David.

Dear Matt, no dice I'm afraid. Gone through everthing in pedantic manner. On "The page cannot be displayed" ie cannot find server, I am unable to "Detect Network Settings" and on advanced tab I have no PCT 1.0 setting. About the only thing I have not tried is ticking the Active X settings. Just run out of ideas. Regards, David

Dear Matt, had another go blasting IE with Ieradicator and downloading 5.5, no good. Then started deleting or uninstalling programmes, prior getting back to 98SE and using "out of box" set up disc. Could not find the uninstall WinME prog.? so went add/remove and used on ME. Computer now OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You tell me.
Computer says I am still ME. Updated to IE6.2, put back most programmes, still OK. If you can explain I will bow down in homage. Regards, David in amazement.
