I have created a web service and all seems well on my development machine i am now trying to install it on the Live machine. I have built a distribution package and this insatllas. when i look in IIS all seesm to be as should be.

How ever when i try and look at the web service on the live server i get the above error.

Can anybody help or if i can find them do I need to hire the 'A' team?

Check that the ASPNET user, or possibly the IUSR_<machine> user if you are using anon. access, has permissions to the folder where the web service is installed. (I've had this before when the code was installed into Program Files and while the permissions where correct for the virtual directory, they weren't for Program Files).

It's also worth checking the directory security tab for the virtual directory, in IIS, at the authentication and ip/dns restrictions windows - just to make sure that there is nothing silly like 'deny all IP addresses' set that is preventing you getting to it.

Failing that I have known problems caused by the user that the application pool was running as (although this won't apply in IIS 5 - I think).

p.s. I ain't getting on no plane, fool!

Many thanks for the reply in between you replying and me reading you response I managed to get the web service to repond unfortunatly i can not tell you exactly what i did but i think you are right regarding the IUSR_ account
