Web server

I got a book on PHP and MYSQL. To try the examples in the book, I understand that I need some type of Web server. The book uses IIS, but suggests Apache as a free alternative (I have the home version of XP and I can't afford the $199 professional upgrade). The problem is that I am not certain what to download and install to get the server. Can anyone recommend a good book for downloading and using the Apache server?

For Apache go to

http://www.apache.org/

And download the http server. Read the documentation carefully to install php.
