I have a basic windows 2003 web server. When you browse to any page of the web site, it prompts you for a user name and password. Then it seems to prompt you again for every image that is on the page.

I have looked at the permissions and all looks good. I have it set to enable scripts to run also.

At one point we did use explore to copy a bunch of files over to the web server directory. I can't help but wonder if the files have not inherited the permissions of the directory they are in.

Any ideas?

Check your website properties, if you are using Windows authentication, then this is by design. If you don't want this behavior use anonymous access.

tsp1965,

Properties --> Directory Security --> Authentication and access control(EDIT)
The box is checked for "enable anonymous access"
Below this is a user name and password that will be used.
What should this user name and password be? Or should it be left blank?

Below this is the authenticated access area. The "Windows integrated authentication" was checked. I have unchecked it.

Testing now to see if it is corrected.

Yep, that was it. How that boxed became checked, I will never know.

Thanks
