There is this web-server which is located outside the firewall. When users try to open a project from inside the firewall, they do not succeed.
Now it happens with frontpage as well leading me to suspect that this is win2k authentication problem on the web server. The firewall is not an issue, as I can connect to other web servers outside the firewall from inside.
Of course, I have no problems trying to connect to the web server from outside the firewall.
Please advise.
Thanks.

what kind of page are they trying to see?
What error number they receive? A+, MCP, CCNA

Well thats the thing. They do not receive any error number and it doesnt happen for any particular page. It just happens for the whole project. It doesnt let me open the project from inside the firewall from the webserver which is outside. Again, the firewall is not a problem I think as it does let me access other web servers outside the firewall.
It happens if I try to open the project either in Interdev as well as in Frontpage.
Thanks.

you should receive a page, with an error number, with a comment of what is possibly happening.
Didi you check the rights on the site? A+, MCP, CCNA

will do that and report back.
Thanks.

sonun,

I'm trying to understand your problem. You have users on your network that are not able to browse to an external webpage that IS NOT hosted on your network, nor on a DMZ port from your firewall. Is this correct?

If so, have you checked your hosts file and/or blocked sites/IP's on the firewall?

No, no. Thats not the problem.
I can browse the webpages hosted by the server from anywhere. I am only not able to open the project files on the web server from inside the firewall. Again, the firewall is not a problem as I can open other project files on other web servers outside the firewall.
I feel its more of an authentication issue.
I also checked the rights on the site and its does allow administrators to get in and it does from outside the firewall.
Thanks.

sonun, teh fact that it works with other servers, does not mean it have to with this one. MAybe the firewall has an entry for this particular server or IP address.
Also to know if the site has something wrong, if not a problem, you can host the site just to test (with the same settings), in one of those servers you can access. A+, MCP, CCNA

I will try that. That web site might not be fully finctional though as it has some ASP pages connecting to the local database. But if I undestand you properly, I guess I will just port it to another server and see if I can open that project.
Thanks for the advice.
Will post back with results.

Yes, just copy the site into other server (just to test it).Keep us posted ok.. A+, MCP, CCNA

Sorry for the delay. Now I couldnt post it on to the production server as it is the production server. I better not disturb the holy cow.
Another thing, I opened up the admin web site on the web server so that I can remotely administer it, but I found that I am unable to connect to that site as well on the specified port from inside the firewall. All I can seemingly do from my machine is to browse pages but thats it. Of course I can do such from outside.
Now I set up a new web server to play with and hope to find a solution on this. Now, this server is also outside the firewall and I am unable to access this as well from my machine inside the firewall. I am unable to browse the default web site as well from inside the firewall.
Now I can do all this on the production web server. As far as I know there is no special hole for the production server. I can acess the projects on the server using local user accounts on the server.
?????????????????????????????
Thanks.
