Hi everyone,

I have a report which needs to be previewed over the web. It involves quite a number of columns of data that it required custom sized print page: 11x17 - Landscape. Viewed with the Crystal Designer, everything is ok. However, when viewed over the web, the web preview is not sized as expected, clipping-off the screen 3 to 5 columns of data.

By the way, the report has been published with the Crystal Enterprise.

Any idea what's causing this and how to go about solving this? Thank you so much in advance. (",)

Which viewer are you using? ActiveX, Java, DHTML? Or have you tried them all, and consistently get the same behaviour?

Hi Naith,

I believe it's the Java plug-in viewer. (By the way, is there a way to specify in CR the type of viewer a report is to be previewed with over the Web, i.e., ActiveX, Java, or DHTML? just curious...)

If it's to be of help, the same printer driver is installed in our IBM Websphere server (Windows NT) where the Crystal Enterprise v8.5 is installed. CE8_No_Printer.pdf from the support section of discussed about the need to install the same printer driver a report was designed with in the host server. I followed what was suggested but things are still not as expected in the web preview.

Please let me know of any solution you might have.

Regards.

If your printer drivers the report was designed to on the client match those on the server (which is important), toggle through your viewer types and document whether the anomaly is true to all viewer types. You can do this from clicking the preferences button in Enterprise, and selecting your viewer near the bottom of the options page.

This setting is at an account level. You cannot specify the intended viewer at the .rpt level, unless you are storing hyperlinks in your code. Within hyperlinks, you can specify viewers within the .rpt file.

Hi Naith,

Thank you so much for your reply, Naith. [smile]

I've finally stumbled upon a solution to my problem. The init parameter in the URL that is used to invoke a report can accept certain values that determine which type of viewer you'd like a browser to use in displaying a report.

The possible viewer types that can be specified are:

VALUE VIEWER TYPE
------------- ----------------------
actx ActiveX
nav_plugin Netscape plugin
java Java using browser JVM
java_plugin Java using Java plugin
html_page Standard HTML
html_frame DHTML with frames

URL sample:
rpt>?init=<viewer type>...

And as for my case, the standard HTML works pretty cool showing all of my data columns to the right. (I guess this goes, as well, to doing away with my previous concerns on preview size over the web.)

Best regards.
