I want to do some simple web hosting.
My aims are to establish a set amount of disk space per client, and setup virtual/Chrooted FTP access. I would also enjoy any other tips anyone may provide to me to make the maintainance and other little server tasks easier!

Thanks!

Well what your asking for is alot of advanced knowledge.

One thing you want for ftp to chroot to home directories
is proftp which will do this very well and is easy to work with.

As for disk space allowances your gonna need to use Quota system
or setup some specific shell scripts to check disk space by home directories.
The Quota system is not easy to learn... alot to it so take your time. This doesn't
have to be setup right away anyway to get you going. you can do later.

On Maintanence thats up to you what you need to setup. Other than looking
at error logs there is not much to do for web hosting except setups and tracking.
I do recommend webalizer for your customers and you. Its a very detaild log analyser
that is very nice and simple to use.

Think about your DNS server too. This is most important for virtual hosting that you do
your own primary dns and if you have second computer server for secondary. A simple
486 even for secondary dns is very usable.

If you need more direct input you can email me direct
