WEB application not working

We have web application running on windows 2003 sp1, from the server it self it is working fine i can access the application using IE6, but the clients could able to access the application from the work station all the workstations are WIN XP SP2, when client click on the link it says " page cannot be displayed"

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later ... etc..
at end i get Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer .

in windows 2003 server IIS admin i enabled that application for annymous access.

Pls anybody help me to resolve his issue.

Was it working before ?, If so what has changed.
What is the HTTP error message: 400/403/404 ...
I would try accessing by IP address , maybe a name issue?

Hi Raghu3 , thanks for reply,

Before it was just 2003 server then we upgraded sp1, after that i did the SCW then i opened all the ports for the web application is using.

Even when you access using

http://192.168.42.1/application,

still client could not access ,

really i could not check the actual error code,i need to disble "show friendly HTTP error message" & check the error code.

Any help greatly appriciated.

We upgraded one of servers from windoes 2003 to windows 2003 SP1, there were no problems.

I tried the above web site on firefox and get the following error message:

The server at 192.168.42.1 is taking too long to respond.


* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

With a retry button.
Try increasing the connection time out for the website in IIS.
Also check the web logs for the error number. It will be more helpful.

well yes Raghu3, because 192.168.xxx.xxx is a reserved range so it will refer to a different host on each private network....

I believe these are reserved ranges:
class A: 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
class B: 172.16.0.0 to 172.30.255.255
class C: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

Now I am lost: not a networking person.

deltaserver403, can you access ANY web pages on that server from a different PC?

First you want to establish if the web server is allowing outsiders to view any content, especially static HTML with no server-side code behind it just so that you know it is not a problem reaching the IIS server on your network.

Try accessing the web pages for the IIS server administration from a different machine.

If you can reach HTML pages on the server from a different machine then you know it is an application issue. If you cannot reach any page on the server then it could be firewall related or a permissions problem on the web folders so that even the IUSR_machinename account cannot view the pages. Perhaps something has changed with the authentication methods, the IUSR account, the anonymous access or the folder permissions. Maybe someone overwrote the folder permissions with inherited ones from higher up.

If you are on a different base network than the web server perhaps the router is not doing port forwarding for port 80 to the correct box. Check if the ports are assigned by IP address or MAC address and if by IP make certain the servers address is still set static and has not changed since the router or switch settings were put in place.

Do you have a DNS server that might be routing internal traffic to an incorrect address or that may have lost it's settings for the web server? I have seen instances at work where a server is accessible from some locations and not others because the DNS server that area of the network was feeding through had been upgraded and a few settings were missed.
