We are interested in hearing from anyone who has recently upgraded their server hardware. Our question is - Did you find anything in the newer servers (from a hardware perspective) that would prevent Netware 3.2 enchanced from running?
We are running only Netware. No other Novell products.
Any results good and bad, would be appreciated.

Ecalang2, Just watch out for the 8GB hard drive limitation. If you can, just install Hard drives under 8GB. If you need more space, there is an updated driver named ideata.ham that recognizes drives over 8Gb, but I haven't needed to use it. This driver replaces the original IDE.DSK Driver that controlled the IDE Disk drives. GOOD LUCK

jnew1999,
Yhank you for the post. I will certainly bear that in mind!

Hi, ecalang2
I recently moved a Novell 3.2 server onto a new Dell machine
and had no real problems. There was a small kafuffle re
the onboard NIC, since the Dell invoice & packing slip
only described it as "onboard NIC" without specifying the
type so I didn't know where to go for drivers. I called
Dell and after their giving me a big disclaimer about how
that version of Novell wasn't supported on that hardware
they told me it was an Intel Pro 100. Got the drivers for
that and it worked fine.

Users were pleasantly surprised at improved performance -
128 meg of memory vs their old 32 meg made a big difference
for disk caching.

So, as long as Novell 3.x drivers are available for the
hardware you should be OK.

Thank you JockMullin! Use tech guys thought that might be the case, but your post is just the thing to help our managers agree with us!

Okay guys, I know I'm riding on a current thread but I have a question. A client is about to have their 3.12 server crash and I'm having them replace the server with a Dell system. I am sure I can get the drivers for the system as mentioned above but I need to know how to get the user accounts over. I know in 4.11 I can do it through DSMaint or DSRepair, since 3.12 does not have NDS where do I go to get the accounts moved over. I am going to install 3.12, install all patches then move the accounts over. Once that is finished then I'll restore the rest of the data from backup. I know I could probably restore the users accounts from the backup but would like to have that job completed prior to the data restore. Can any of you direct me to the utility that is used for this purpose?

Thanks

I haven't done this for a while but I seem to recall a process called an over-the-wire migration in the 3.12 Installation or System Admin guide. Since you will have two machines (the current and the new Dell), this process should get you where you want to be.

Thanks for the point in the right direction, one other question...Do any of you know if Dell has a Novell 3.12 driver for their PERC3 Raid Card? I am going to look on Dells site to see but wondered if you guys knew?

Thanks
