We need to view the saved data in order to analyze the accuracy of the report. In some cases, we have over 400K records with 5-6 groups and 10-12 formulas that are summarized at each level. We'd like to know if there is a quicker way to open a file with saved data. It seems to read the records all over again, which often takes over an hour. We do save a skeleton version of the report for quicker loading and report modification. Is that a better explanation of our situation?

Choose File, then "Save data with report".
This option will save the report with the information from the last time it was ran. Try it.

If you save a report with saved data it will save a table with all used records, and all used fields. The saved data table is actually in DBase4 format, but isn't viewable directly.

So, when you open a report with saved data, it does have to read the records from the table, just not the live table. On the file - report options screen you could try saving the summaries with the data. I am not sure if that is faster with or without. With 400K records to read it is going to take some time no matter how you do it. Performance is probably more dependant on RAM and processor speed in your case.

Is the RPT being saved locally or on the network? You might get better performance if you save it locally (assuming you have the space). Ken Hamady
