We have upgraded to CR9.2.2.X from CR8.5. When i opened the report that was created in CR8.5 using CR9.2.2.X I could not edit the query.
Does anybody know why?
Thanks

You can no longer edit the sql query directly in the CR 9 Show SQL window. It has not been a recommended method for quite a while.

Instead of editing the query, CR 9 now provides the ability to create a command object as a datasource. In your situation, this feature may provide a substitute for editing the SQL Query, and is actually much more flexible. Look at the command object documentation in the help file for more info.

Thanks a lot FVTrainer! I have been waiting for some response on this! It drives me nuts. I have some 10 - 15 reports to be converted to 9.0 and have to edit almost all the report queries.
I will check it.
Thanks again,

Hi FVTrainer
I am not able to find any info in the Crystal decisions website. In Crystal Reports help, it says to edit it throught Command object. But when i tried doing it would hang. Any ideas? or Can you guide me how to do it exactly?
Thanks

You use the command object in place of tables as your data source. Assuming you are using an ODBC datasource, you do the following:

In the Database Expert, select "Create New Connection". Open the ODBC (RDO) folder and select your ODBC Connection from the ODBC Data Source Selection window. Login if necessary. "Add Command" will show up as an option under the ODBC connection. Double-click on the "Add Command" item. You'll get a window that allows you to enter the SQL query. Enter your query, click "OK", and then click "OK" on the Database Expert window. You should then be able to create a report using the command object.

If you are trying to modify an existing report to use a command object, check out the following kb article:

Thank you very much FVTrainer! Will update you about it soon!

Hi FVTrainer
We got a workaround for that issue.

Now we are making all the changes in CR8.5 and save it there. Then open the modified report in CR9.2.2.X and save it in that version. We will load the CR9.2.2.X format report in CE9.0.

As we have to make some minor change to all the reports and send it out to production by tom', we don't have enuf time to modify the changes. But your ideas and guidance were really helpful and we will have to make such changes in the Phase II.
Thanks a lot!
