Every time my grandson logs on to his screen he gets this message
Windows Installer
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other removable disc that is not available, insert
Microsoft money 2001

He has no wish to install this disc and it drives him crazy because it pops up about 4-5 times when he clicks on cancel before it disappears.
Has anyone any idea how to get rid of it. I looked on Microsoft support but there only seemed to be an answer for platforms Win 95 to NT or 2000
thanks

Put the Disk in (if you have it). Let it do what ever it wants and that might fix the problem. If it tries to install any software just cancel the setup. Windows Installer might just be doing some housekeeping and requires that disk loaded just to complete some procedure.

You could also create a Restore Point before you insert the disk as a form of backup incase anything untoward happened.

I found a similar problem with Microsoft (is there a pattern here?) Office 97. It only happened with certain other (non-Microsoft) programs we tried to run. Ours stemmed from installing only part of the suite directly from a setup file for the desired application rather than the setup file for the entire suite. Using the regular install program (for the Microsoft product) to install the desired applications solved the problem for us. BlackburnKL

Ihm, this is actually windows installer in action which Microsoft calls "total cost of ownership". this feature is handy for administrators who can configure Windows Office to be installed on demand when a user clicks on a icon in programmes such as Access or Powerpoint! When an Administrator installs a miniuim of windows office with say just Word but with the other icons placed in programmes and a user clicks on say Access, windows installer will pop up saying "do you want to install Access"? if you choose no, it will continually harass you and any other user who logs on thereafter to install whatever icon they clicked in Windows office. This is a feature of W2k and obviously is used also in Xp-pro, so just install the application and it won't bug you anymore!

Thanks everyone
I will check to see where they have the disc and see if I can fix it.
