What I would suggest is to have the Windows 2000 server connect directly to the router. Have two NICS, one to the router and the other to your network, in the Win2k server and have it share the internet connection and assign addresses through the second NIC.
I'm sorry, but why would I have to use this on a router. We have a small environment. Why can't I just setup a DHCP Server and point the clients to this server to receive an ip address? They don't need to login to this server. Only to receive an ip address. We're a Novell Shop. THanks.
To get DHCP you don't have to point the clients to the DHCP server. It performs a netbroadcast and any clients looking for a DHCP will get its IP setup.
Just enable DHCP and configure it.
Then on the client just configure them to obtain an address automatically.
Should work just fine.
If your router is a gateway to another subnet or internet just specify that in DHCP.
