We are having a problem getting a new install of Livelink 9.2 on our server. I'm surrently trying to install it on my local windows 2000 advanced server with an MS SQL server 3000

I get as far as the create a new database page (choosing MS SQL) and enter the details
SERVER ahSERVER
Adminstrator sa
Password
Master database master

but when I click click Log-in I get

Server did not Respond
The Livelink Server did not respond, or sent a document that contained no data.
Please try again. If the problem persists, contact your Livelink administrator

Livelink Services are running with Local System Account (as server and database run on same server). My local system account has administrator rights

Talking to Opentext the only thing they have said is that they tought the sa password wrong (which cannot be the case as I have tested with query analyser logging in with sa with password I use and can interrogate tables

Iv'e tried just about every combination of user I can think of, in one case creating a user called Livelinkuser with admin rights and giving them the same rights as sa in the MS SQL database, but no luck.

I know it is feasible as I did install it successfully once before on this machine, but had to do a full reinstall (of O/S etc) of the whole machine a while back so obviously something has changed in the OS or SQL server.

Can anybody offer any advise - Livelink of very slow at responding.

Thanks in Advance
Andy

Have you put your log level in the opentext.ini to 11 and enable VERBOSE logging to see what happens ? Do you have the correct IIS permissions ? are you getting anything in the Server's Event Viewer ?

Thanks for your help, any help is gratefully recieved

I went through the opentext.ini but could find anything to set the log level or enable VERBOSE, can you tell me the variables I'm looking for in this file. Maybe its becasue its a new install and hasn't got as far as setting these variables yet in the opentext.ini file?

Iv'e set up the IIS as specified in the mappings, the problem seems to be that it can't get into the SQL server. Up to then the pages work fine.

The Server Event Viewer gives no errors or warnings

Andy

In the [OPTIONS] set is a values called WANTVERBOSE and WANTLOGS, these should be set to TRUE.

In the [GENERAL] section, set DEBUG to 11

If one is not present, simply add it in the correct section.

Then restart your LL Server and have a look in the logs directory once you get the error again.

Hi Andy,
Can you log in to the database and create a table as the Livelink database user with any SQL tools?

I always suggest creating a local or domain account for the Livelink user, adding the account to Administrator group and start all the service with the Livelink user.

Have you checked the IIS mappings. The livelink to CGI mapping requires Script and Execute.

If the d/b and Livelink server are on the same machine, check that you are using either Localhost or 127.0.0.1 as the IP address. This will eliminate DNS lookups.

Regards, Mark.

Thanks everyone for your help. In the end I managed to restore a previous database (couldn't create a new one), using some hints from this forum. Tried asll your suggestions but to no avail...

Next we have to get it working on a cluster:-( not looking forward to it. Again many thanks
Andy
