We are facing one printing problem in SCO OPENSERVER 5.0.6.
Our server is connected to Fujitsu Line printer through serial port (com 1).The user gives print command through "lp".When we give the lp command:

1. If the printer is online, it prints okay.
2. If it is offline,or the paper finishes, the continued printout misses many lines.
3. When the printer is off, when lp command is issued , "lpstat -t" shows the request in queue. After about half a minute the "lpstat -t" shows no request.

Any one having idea about the problem and can help ?

Thanks In Advance

hi,

it sounds like a flow control problem , is your printer
using software flow control x/on & x/off and is your serial
port configured the same ?

check the printer settings and the port settings( stty )

if they are bothe set to x/on / x/off , then send a simple print ( coupleof pages with line numbers in it i.e.

line number 1 .............
line number 2 ...........

etc.

send this print and turn printer offline , wait for about 10 seconds , tune it back on line and then check the print ?

Hi DSMARWAY !

Yes it seems to be a flow control problem. The printer is using X/ON , X/OFF protocol. But how to check for the same for serial port ?

Also how to check stty settings ?

You can check stty setting by running at the command line
# stty < /dev/tty1a
Check /etc/inittab, and look for tty1a, whichever you're using. ALso check /etc/conf/init.d/sio, and look for the same entries.
