I've got a problem with a Western Digital 120GB EIDE HD.
Model WD1200BB-00CAA1
Date 01 mar 2003

The drive is dead after at ½ sec break of electric powersupply. I does´nt rotate at all. Probably there is a failure in the cicuit board.

Is ther somebody who can give me some adwise? I want to búy a circuit board or a whole drive from which I can remove a comparable circuit card.

Best regards
Roland

has information that may be helpful in the Data Recovery/Help Articles section. You can also search for drives or post a Want-To-Buy in the Trader section. Also look on eBay for a replacement drive.

Something that has worked for me on more than one occasion in the past:

1. Place the drive in a ziplock plastic bag and throw it in the freezer for a couple hours

2. Install it back into the PC quickly after removing it from the freezer being careful not to let condensation get on any electrical components inside the PC (might be best to just attach the power and IDE cable leaving the drive outside of the case)

As crazy as this sounds, believe it or not, it works for some reason. I've brought 3 drives back to life temporarily by doing this, long enough to pull data off.
