Way to "highlight" on text when changing it?

Hi, in Photoshop, I can highlight text, press cntrl+H and it'll make the highlight (black) disappear so that I can clearly see the changes being made w/o the distracting highlight......is there a way to do this in Indesign. I'm using ID3.

No there isn't. But you can give it a paragraph or character style. Then you can change the style without having it selected. Just make sure the Preview is selected on the dialog box.
 
Styles are great. You could also use story editor maybe, if you're at risk of forgetting to reapply styles, which worries me.
