Stop being selfish and start helping. You guys think that you are going to control information and thus control the customer?

You forget that the web has many places to get info. and if you keep this exclusive stuff up you are going to shoot yourself in the foot.

So you get your and that't it? I am a vendor in MIS and my post was deleted. My two cents.

Apparently you have missed the point entirely.

Why is it that YOUR technicians aren't helping you?

This has nothing to do with selfishness.

You can't expect us to teach you how to become a Norstar tech in this forum. That would take forever and that's not what this forum is about. This is definitely NOT Norstar 101. This forum is for technicians and qualified system administrators who need help with real problems. It's NOT for people who want to learn how to program Norstars.

Did you delete my post? I work on Partners most of the time and I needed a little help on an older Norstar. I asked about PRI's and DID's and the modules and that was it.

I did not ask about programming that part I already know and most of that I got from using the SEARCH feature which THIS board provides.

If you do not want to teach then lock down the board and restrcit the SEARCH and knowledge base on this forum otherwise stop trying to CONTROL the flow of free information THAT is what the web is all about and if not for the web your forum would never exist.

Lets me remind this board that there is a lot more valuable info. on this board then the questions I asked. You provide password reprogramming and bypass info. that ONLY the OEM should have yet it is post for all to see on this board.

I would say that is a real security issue for your customers if you want to protect them from people playing around or shutting down a system.

Lets see how long this post lasts before it it deleted.

I'm sure that if your post was deleted, it was done so by a forum moderator and for good reason.

I have no problem teaching other qualified technicians the tricks of the trade. I do have a problem trying to teach end users and unqualified people how to be technicians in this forum.

It's just not practical and it could even be downright dangerous!

Like I asked you before, If you're really a vendor, why aren't YOUR Norstar techs helping you?

Maybe you should start a Norstar users forum or better yet a "Wannabe Norstar Tech" forum!

I beg your pardon???

I have enough sense not to provide passwords and reset codes and I think anyone who does should be booted off this board immediately because obviously they have no idea what kind of catastrophies they may have already caused all around the world!

I suppose it's safe to assume that you have not yet seen the "are we helping" thread.

Yuasa, I have no idea what you are talking about. No one is trying to be nasty here. We are only trying to use the forum for the intent that it was created. I don't have a problem with helping as long as you are not using me as your vendor. If you do that I hope tek-tips owners allows us to set up an account where YOU have to put in a credit card so I can charge you.

Most of the posts, I ignore, If your in a jam and I can help, no problem. It's fairly easy to tell the techs from the users. I have been doing this for over 20 years and cannot teach a user the system in 20 words or less, and I will not. I have to agree with others, maybe there should be two forums, one for techs, and one for user training, when in doubt RTFM (read the freekin manual).

Well I AM a vendor, I work on call center systems and Avaya Partner, Merlin, etc. I have been in the biz for 25 years, I just don;t usually work on Norstar or on PRI's and I have a few simple questions about both.

If my post was still on here the any telco person in teh biz would have been able to realize I was in the biz and NOT a customer. Customer do not have the lingo down.

Regardless, no one says you have to answe any post. Just ignore the ones you don;t like. However there are many on here who DO want to help. Leave it up them them and stop trying to dictate to the ones who want to help. It is their own choice to help or not.

if you are vendor why is your handle classified as MIS?
Do you want to change that to indicate your role?

I think we had this same disscusion oh about 1 year or so ago anyone here remember that.

Yes as a matter of fact I do remember the post as we went around and around about this subject. As I was contacted by Tek-Tips and asked not to bring this up anymore. But it is the same thing again. As it states at the top of the page
"Intelligent work forum for Computer (Telephony) Professionals

dtone mine says "computer pro" so that leaves me out...this is still a great forum...

hawks, I do not think we will leave you out as you have been a lot of help in the past for me and other should agree, and I do agree this is still the best forum that I have seen around.
