I'm have a AOpen H600A case with two 8cm fans at the back of the case sucking air out of it, I am more then happy with the internal temps but I am not that happy with the open grills on the sides of the case that let the air get sucked in.

There is nothing wrong with them in thenselves, but I am looking for a way to cover them with some sort of washable air filters to keep the dust out.

Anyone have any ideas of what to use?

I believe if you want a DIY solution you will find a course filter type foam at an aquatic garden centre, the type used in pond filteration (course enough to catch dust particles and allow air throughput without blocking too easily)they sell it in all sorts of shapes and sizes as well as sheet type. Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Also in a hardware store. Filter foam used in window airconditioners.

Several MOD sites on the internet sell anodized filters relatively cheaply. I don't know the exact price but I think I remember seeing them for $4 or $5 US. They are easily rinseable and I believe I read a review where the reviewer actually believed they had better airdraw than standard foam or fiber filters while still filtering out dust effectively. I could be mistaked on that point though :p

I myself am planning on getting a handful of these for my computer, because a) they work and b) they're washable and c) my UV reactant fans ought to glow nicely reflected off the metal :)

Anodized aluminum filters work very well, and are cheap to be had. The only problem is the mounting of them, as they rarely fit where foam filters used to go. I use an AMS g-Tower, and thus had to do a little bit of cutting and drilling in order to attach the filters properly. With the anodized filters, it's possible that you may not even have to wash them, as you can just use a hand-vac to clean them off. It works very well :)

I like the idea of the aluminum filters, they would provide a better long term solution I'm thinking.

Any idea where in Sydney sheets of anodized aluminum filters can be obtained?

To fit the air intake vents on the case I need 2 strips 12 inches by 1 inch and 1 strip approx 6 inches by 1 inch.

Looking around the internet all I can seem to find is Anodized aluminum filters which are pre made to fit 8 or 12cm fans.

Once again, thanks.
