hi out there- i turned on a laptop w/a wireless card and it wanted to connect to an unsecure network... I know enough to find out the machine name of computer. tried net send but getting errors. can i send him a popup telling him to lock it down w/out having to knock on his door and see him in his skibbies?

thanks

Why not lock your wireless network adapters down so that they do not attempt to connect to unsecured networks?

You may by your actions anger your neighbor. A wireless network that does not use WEP or WAP may not be wise from a security standpoint, but is not breaking any laws. And surveys have always suggested they are in the majority of installations -- some on purpose, some due to ignorance.

And, there are many community WISPs where they are deliberately set without security.

There is no reason for these unsecured networks to affect your connection to a secured network. You should be able to specify in your client adapter settings that only secured networks will be used, and to set the priority for the identified networks in their order of connection.

i don't use a wireless router, was just working on a friend's laptop that had one.... just wanted to send a message next door warning him his router is wide open. I just connected to his machine and tried a console command but said he's unavailable.
getting late, will tell him tomorrow.
thanks

If he's not a cool kind of dude, I probobaly wouldn't just tell him straight up that you connected to his machine.. while it's not smart for him to leave his stuff wide open, it's still his property, remember that.
