Hello All,
Will B179 work or not work with Manager 8.1? I use multiple installation documentations, watched videos, and even talked to my phone distributor. Everything indicates it should work, but it doesn't.

I have IP Office 500 running Manager version 8.1(5), Firmware 6.1(5), and I'm trying to connect a B179 conference phone, firmware 2.3.9. The phone would not register. The SysMonitor/SIP Phone Status shows the extentions but I can't get the phone registered to any of them. I have tried to manually assign IP address and DHCP via IP Office.

I have 12 IP Endpoint Licenses (included with base system), I can register H.323 phones. The B179 phone does connect enough to get contacts from IPO, but can't register to make calls.

PS. My phone system does show this error: The number of non-Avaya IP extensions configured exceeds the number licensed. However, I'm using all Avaya phones so I don't think this has anything with what I'm doing.

If it comes down to configuration error, I can post it. Right now, I'm trying to rule out software version compatibility between B179 and Manager 8.1

Thanks.

That phone is not supported in R6.1 as an Avaya IP Endpoint. You would have to have a 3rd party IP Endpoint to use it. Support for the B179 isn't until R7.

Great to know. Even my phone service/reseller didn't know to tell me this when I called. I wasted days, thinking it's just bad configuration.
Next step would be whether or not to buy 3rd party license, or upgade to R7. Which one would you recommend? (which might be the cheaper solution?)

Thanks.

You would need both if i read his top tip correctly.

No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

@mkoker
I looked at the Technical Bulletin for R9.1 and support for the B179 has its own chapter!
However, we use lots of the 4412D+ and 6408D phones, but they are no longer supported in R9.1.
Can you verify this information? Looks like we might be stuck at R8.1, or do we have other options.

Thanks!!!

You are on 6.1 really so you could go to 7 or 8 or 8.1 or 9 or 9.1. Not supported doesn't mean it doesn't work :)

@amriddle01
Thanks, I'll check with my vendor/service person. As far as I know, upgrading to 7 requires more licensing. I think that was why they sold us the IP Office with R6. I guess it will come down to cost of R7 (or whatever) vs 3rd party endpoint license and stay at R6.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.

amriddle is right. A lot of "not supported" stations work fine. If i had a spare B179 that I could open and try I would, unfortunately not the case today. You could probably order the Third-Party IP End Points trial to verify that you can get the phone working. The license will be valid for 60 days from when it is assigned to your system.

Thanks mkoker,
Just spoke to our phone person and he is going to give us a quote on "large licensing" price because we do have more than 30 users. He also says that our legacy equipment will work up to R9.0.

I wanted the 3rd party endpoint option, but he says he can't support that because I'm getting my information from people online, and that option is not directly supported by Avaya. Anyways, my boss would never let me upgrade Manager because it would cost way too much. I will push the 60 day trial for 3rd party endpoint license. I'm pretty sure it will work, as these phones did work that way before they became Avaya phones.

Avaya don't support anything below R9 and even then only with a support account with them on that specific system.... so that's not a valid reason :)

If you can pay the bill for a B179 you should be able to pay for an upgrade license as well...
