I have a network at home starting with a netgear router. I have one wap11 (v2.8 firmware 2.05) wired to the netgear router in access point mode. It is connected to an external antenna pointed to my neighbor's house.

The neighbor's have a wap11 (v2.8 firmware 2.05) set to repeater mode with the first access point's wireless mac address entered into it.

I have been able to ping the "repeater" wap11 at the and access it's setup page, but I have yet to get a link light on the “repeater wap11”.

A tech I spoke with at linksys said that the link light would only light up if it were connected via Ethernet cable to a LAN. Is that correct? The laptop that is used at the neighbor’s home is not getting its signal from the “repeater” wap11. It is still getting the signal from the external antenna here at my house.

The linksys tech suggested changing the ssid and channel on the “repeater” wap11, but it doesn’t seem to like that much. The setup page doesn't ever process the changes and get to the confirmation page. Now that I have tried to change it, I lost connection to it through ping and IE set up page.

I guess tomorrow I will have to go get it and put it back into the wired network so I can change the ssid and channel back to what they were.

Do you have any suggestions for me? I can't figure out why I can get signal from my external antenna with the laptop, but I can't get a signal from the "repeater" wap11 with the laptop. I can sit right next to the "repeater" (within 1 foot) and get a "good" signal.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

In general:

. Same SSID, Channel, and WEP address as primary AP
. LAN MAC (not wireless MAC) of primary AP entered into the repeater WAP11

The LAN MAC address and the wireless MAC address are the same on the AP. I looked on the setup page of the AP and compared it to the MAC address on the bottom of the AP and they are all the same. Now what? I will change the SSID and channel back to what they were too. The WEP was always the same.

Any other ideas?
