Hi all :) I am somewhat new to micros and i am wanting to possibly add a terminal or 2.. I have noticed that my current terminals run on windowsCE and i dont have a lot of experience with it tho i understand its kind of a stripped down version of xp.. So do i have to use windowsCE? I am wanting to try using a tablet pc with micros installed on it.. Can i use a tablet pc with res3700? Can it have windows 7/8 on it? Any help or point me in the right direction is appreciated! Also will I have to buy another license for the extra terminal from my micros dealer?

Thanks!
Jeff

Oh yeah - I'd probably also set the computer resolution to 1024x768 so that Ops is fullscreen.

On the win7 machine i just right click the uwsseq key and click modify and change "value data" to 30 right? just wanted to be sure before i do it...

Yes, on the win 7 machine you just edit the UWSSeq in regedit to match what is in the MDSHosts file.

WOOOHOOO! You the MAN!!! Thank you so much! hahahaha yes!
Lol now to get a epson printer working with a cash drawer attached to that .. and a card swipe... Im guessing the epson printer will kick open the cash register for me like it does on aloha im hoping..
Any certain hardware you would recommend?.. I usually just get a $50 cash register off ebay and a $20 card swipe.. and a epson tm-iv or one of the similar thermal printers...

Once again thanks so much for your help!
Jeff

I like the TM-88 thermals personally and they work well off the serial ports on a win 7 machine. I think to use a printer than can also open the drawer you have to use an OPOS compatible printer but I'm not sure; I've never done it. For swipe readers any old USB swipe reader seems to work. The hotels I deal with just use their USB swipe readers that come with their PMS systems.

Cool.. yea ive used opos with aloha so hopefully that wont be to diificult to figute out.. im going to have to go usb on the epson though.. no serial ports..
Once again thank you very much! Ill let ya know how all the perpherals go when i get them in the mail :)

Hey Moregelen! Well i got my printer in today and am trying to get it working with opos now... wish me luck :) One thing i noticed that isn't working properly is it seems my manager procedures aren't working from the new terminal..like i tried to change a employee password and manager procedures just shows up in a window resembling iexplorer with "this program cannot display the webpage" Any ideas on that one?

Thanks again for all your help!

Can you check your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOST and MDSHOST files? The manager procedures is actually just an IIS server. If you can open internet explorer on the workstation and navigate directly to the IP address of the server you can verify whether it connects or not.

Just replace the 192.168.105.151 with the actual IP address of your Micros server. If that works, then it is probably an issue with your host file. If it doesn't work, you might have a permissions snag somewhere on the IIS.

Ok... i got to it by using the address bar in my iexplorer.. it asked if it was ok to allow a script and then a bho.. i allowed both.. but then when i tryed to enter it the normal way from my manager screen it has the same problem.

Also... i got the opos printer working... but am having trouble getting the opos drawer to kick open ... there are a few of options with the drawer.. multiA, multiB, and Standard. seems after that i choose my printer as what its connected to.. Any ideas?

also.. are u wanting me to go to the servers drivers/etc/hosts file from uws5 ? or..?

Sorry, I've never setup any OPOS printers that can kick open cash drawers, so I actually have no idea.

The micros will actual use the host file, C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (open notepad as an administrator in order to edit this). You have to have the MIcros server in this file, eg:

192.168.105.151 MICROS5-LAB

Then it ALSO has to be in the MDSHosts file, but this wouldn't affect manager procedures because it uses the hosts file for that.

Are you saying it has the same problem launching directly in internet explorer that it does when trying to launch it from Ops? Have you tried maybe using:

Depends on if you are using classic security or not.

Ok so i need to check/edit that file on the server? or the new workstation?

It works directly from ie but not when im in ops.

Hey ... after much beating of my head against the wall with opos.. i had a duh moment... :) why not just use the 2 workstation5a's that are not using there cash drawer abilitys and just get 2 cash drawers that will directly plug into those workstations... :) I am going to setup my 6th license with a new pc.. and i only need 4 cash drawers.. so the 2 workstations that dont need a cash drawer will be the 2 i have built.
Do you sell cash drawers and the necessary cable to direct connect to a workstation5a? If not do you know a good place to get em fast? Our opening day is in 7 days...
and im not even worried about the manager procedures right now... that can wait

Thanks again so much for your help.... Your a life saver!

The cables in the cash drawers we use are directly integrated into the cash drawer. I don't know if we sell the wires to be honest; I spend most of my time at my desk programming customer service requests are fixing the things that stump our help desk. While I do do my own installs, that doesn't happen that often and is usually only done with our 'troublesome' clients.

This new keyboard I have looks sexy but good lord I can't type worth a damn on it....

Hey Moregelen! well my cash drawers are working fine now that im using the uws5a's ... so no more worries about those. I do have one little tricky thing going on i want to figure out.. on my 2 new workstations when using opos for printing it does fine with receipts, clock in and out slips, and credit card slips... but it wont print any reports(employee closeouts, clockin status, system sales details etc) .. i have report printer set to the same as receipt and everything else.. if i set reports to one of my ip printers it works fine. I know you havent messed with opos but was thinking maybe it wasnt an opos issue that you may know about...?
Had our soft opening tuesday night and went pretty good... but tonight is our grand opening... expecting at least 500 people.. wish me luck :)

Congrsts on the new ketyboard.. mine looks like crap and i still type bad :)

I have to admit my not-so-inner nerd had me face palming for that comment.. Sexy keyboard... Ugh

The reports are different because they go back through to auto sequence server. The first oh duh thing is making sure the reports in question are 40 column reports. After that I'd check C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts on both the workstations and server to make sure they have the correct info on each other.

Hey Moregelen.. well on the server the host file has each ip for each terminal and its name like 182.168.100.!05 uws05 ... but on uws05's host file nothing was listed.. i added 192.168.100.100 MICROS1 to uws05's host file and im still not gettig reports.. do i need to reload database? And the columns are set to 40

Thanks again for all the help.. 4 1/2 hours till open :)

Hey again... well all went really well.. except i never did get those reports working... should i maybe try copy and pasting the servers hosts file on to the workstation???
Also.. one kinda big problem... the credit cards authorize in seconds on my 4 old workstations, but on the 2 new workstations it literally takes 4-5 minutes... had to make the waitresses go behind the bars to do there cc's... any ideas on that one?

Thanks again man... you've been a real help!

I haven't ever added a Windows 7 computer as a workstation to RES 4, so this is all new to me too..

Have you tried making sure the win7 client has a gateway and dns so that it can get out to the internet without having to go through the MICROS server?

Maybe try installing the driver directly on the Win7 client?

Have you tried looking in the 3700d log to see if the reports are failing out for some reason?
