Hi,
I have an athlon64 3200+ and just added a new Evercool WC-101 water cooling kit. Its a decent kit, easy to set-up into custom metal box.Idle cpu temps-31c, Full load temps-34c. Not bad temps but i want to go lower to overclock for efficently. So i decided i need to buy a Peltier and power supply. Question is how much wattage should the peltier be if im looking for 10c temps and below? Also where can i find a TEC power supply for cheap? I have an old 250psu but have read articles that they do not support TEC Amp/wattage ratings?...

you're using a 250W psu to power a athlon64!!

wow, didn't realise that's possible, have you got another psu to power everything else, or do you just not have any other components...

If you cool your cpu too far (below ambient) you invite condensation which can cause havoc in you computer. Do your overclocking and watch the temperature and see how it is reacting before adding the peltier.

No i use an Ibest 400 something watt power supply. The 250 is from an old comp. I have neoprene stuff and the sealer so im not worried bout that.

Dodo,

What the heck are you talking about here?

First of all, how do you intend to mount a wc heatsink and a peltier at the same time?

Next, you need to do some research to match the peltier to the wattage of the A64 and more research to match a psu to the peltier and the rest of your system. An "Ibest 400 something" likely won't do the job.

You're not going to find peltier components "for cheap".
If you don't totally understand how a peltier works, you can fry your cpu and other components.

Lastly, I question the 3°C difference between idle and full load. Why?
1. The wc-101 doesn't report temps accurately.
2. Expected load temps should be 8-10°C above idle.

What motherboard do you have?
What are you using to obtain load temps?
What is your room temp?

Yeah... I was attempting to visualize a peltier and a water system both.... unless you have the peltier on the chip, and water-cool the peltier... but that would be interesting at best, and nasty at worst....

Might as well use one of those refrigerated systems. :)

Just my $.02
