have data for 50 states, about 50 pieces of info per state, into a generic template to display the data for each state.
the map is done, and i have the template, I need to somehow parse the excel xml into the templates.
So with just one change to one template, the data for each state should be updated, the data on the data page reorganized, etc.
Please help.

What version of Flash are you using?

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

mx 2004, and i'd like it to run on slightly older flash players on the web, if possible.

Hmmmm, I could tell you how to do it in MX 2004 Pro, but 1: it would only work in the Flash 7 plugin with Actionscript 2 and 2: You don't have Flash MX 2004 Pro :)

I think Wangbar might have a good example or two up his sleeve for using the XML class.

Sorry I do have MX 2004 Pro.

Would the viewer have to add the actionscript plugin?

How does the latimes map update the polling information on their website? --- its the map about halfway down the page, it seems to be getting the information from somewhere as it runs.

The Flash 7 plugin takes care of AS2. The thing is the MX Pro data components will not work in previous versions of the player.

I would bet that the LA Times is using an XML datasource of some sort. Have a look at this thread and let me know if you have any questions.

Hope it helps!
