We have two exchange servers, one 2000, the other 2003 on our network, but everything is on the 2003 Exchange server (all mailboxes have been moved over, and maybe an offline folder address book is left on the 2000 server), so now this 2000 server is having errors and the stores are not available (can't even mount them; that choice is greyed out) and we want to remove this server. But, that 2000 server, b/c it was our first, is referenced in our firewall config, by an externally hosted email filter, and by network solutions for delivery of email. Is it easier to just change the address of the Exchange 2003 server to the old Exchange 2000 server after we take that old server offline? We'd remove the server through Exchange tasks first, but wanted to see if just a change of addresses would be easier than everything else... Any thoughts? Thanks!

Yes, it is the easiest solution, switch private IPs and assign WinK server IP to Win2K3 server and you should be good to go.

That is what we will look to do, then...The one error that we are getting is synchronization errors relating to the Offline Address List, the only one is on the defunct server. From the functional Exchange 2003 server, we can see that the Default Offline Address List shown on the old server has choices to be rebuilt, deleted, renamed, etc...should we just delete this listing and create a new offline address list on the working server?

Read this article first. The address list must be removed from the OAL before the address list object is deleted. When you delete an address list object, the link to the OAL object in the address list is not removed. The event ID 9301 is logged when you try to access a deleted object on the server.
