It is possible to control the sequence with which Windows copies files?

I would like to be able to first read the file creation date or jpeg EXIF creation date, then copy files in sequence beginning with file that has the earliest creation date, ascending by file creation date to end with the file that has the latest creation date.

The files being copied are JPEGS, they are going from a Win XP hard drive to SD flash memory. The flash memory is then inserted into a digital photo frame, which then displays the jpegs in the order that they were written on the flash memory. The photo frame's minimal software does not offer any sorting of how the files are displayed. The default display order is the order in which the files were written to the flash memory.

Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Thanks Freestone - I will check out the solution you found.

I have also found a 7 year-old software named "Exifer" that allows one to edit and manipulate EXIF data. It is at
One thing I was able to do with Exifer was reset the file date to match the EXIF date, which then allowed your orignal script to place the files in the order I needed.

I have found, that for whatever reason, some of my digital images do not contain EXIF data. These imagas were not edited, so I am unsure why the EXIF data is not there. My only assumption is the camera errored when saving the image file. In those cases I used the Exifer software to create EXIF data.

But in any event the solution you originall offered and the one you just found sounds promising. Thanks for the help for me and for anyone else who stumples across this thread with the same question.

Thanks for pointing out "Exifer", kc27. I had not found that one in my search for an EXIF tool. It sounds like it's doing what you want so "Mediasort" is probably redundant.
