Want to convert a DATE to Month# and Year 1

I am trying to take a date like 5/31/2009 and convert it in a query to 200905. The following does not work for me.

Purchases MonthYear: Format([PO Date],"mmmm" & " "&"yyyy")

gets me an answer of 2009 May

I desire 200905.

Thanks for your help.
