Hi,

I want to change the address book. I have installed lotus notes R5 clinet. I got server R5 When i installed client At the time of finishing i it showed me creating address book and all things now my notes user has left thr organisation and in place of that there is another user. I have set the id fro that user but i want to change the address book on that users name.
How can i do that without reinstallation of R5 Client?

Thanks in Advance....... Aslam

Reinstalling the Notes client is not such a big deal, you don't need to do the install procedure.
Just find and edit the notes.ini file, remove all but the first four lines, and save. Delete the names.nsf and the desktop.dsk, as well as the bookmarks.nsf files in the data directory, and launch Notes.
Notes will automatically initiate the first startup sequence, which means asking the user for the server to connect to, the id to use, and install the new names.nsf and work environment by itself.
In all, it takes about two minutes and you have a clean work environment for the new user.

I think it is the best thing to do, and it avoids having to manually dig into dozens of places to replace names and data, forgetting one crucial one (which always happens).

Come to think of it, you might actually want to delete all nsf and dsk files in the data folder.
Notes will recreate whatever it needs from the template files.

HI.

I did that before only. when i start lotus notes it asked me for configuration. Afetr that it is giving me the error "file dose not exist."

any ideas. Aslam

Hello,
Sometimes the file does not exist message comes up, if you click OK, (Maybe have to do it a couple of times) it should go away and let you continue with the rest of the set up.
From that point on you should get no problems

Any probs give me a shout

I've used the technique described by pmonett many times to setup Notes for a new user, while it appears to be the easiest way to reconfig Notes, it does NOT rename the local address book--it will still have the name of the original user. Deleting the names.nsf file deletes all the entries, but the database still has the same name. Deleting any of the other related files (desktop5 etc,) doesn't do this either.

Aslamvs, It is very easy to change the name of the address book manually. Just right-click on the address book icon in the left toolbar and go to Database | Properties... then type in the name you want the the section labeled "title". That's it.

Best way I find of re-configuring the client is to do the following:

Delete all local copies of databases (.nsf)
Delete all .dsk files
Open Notes.ini and remove all apart from first 4/5 lines

You must be careful when just renaming Address books as it contains connections entries and certificates for the previous user. If any of these are specific for that user, they will not work.

It also containg location document information so all this would need to be changed manually. Lamaar75@hotmail.com
