WAN Slowness

Hello Everyone,

I am currently having slowness issues with users that are accessing our ERP system (JD Edwards) via Citrix (1.8 Farm on Windows 2000) over a full T1. The slowness occurs in many different situations but for example when users tab across multiple fields in a particular form or when they are typing inside JD Edwards there is a delay or a stutter (for a lack of better term) with the way the screens refresh. Based on some analysis we did on the circuit we were seeing way too many very small packets. The packets coming from the host were in the range of 64 to 72 bytes (for the ones we saw); the acknowledgements coming back from this side are 60 bytes. At this rate, for every byte of data that is actually being transferred there are about 12 to 30 bytes of pure overhead associated with trying to get the byte from one end to the other.

Is this activity normal and has any has this type a latency issue before?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Dave

Latency issues could be one of a million things, many of which could be simply out of your control (internet, isp problems, etc...). Forgive me if this is obvious (as your name is citrixdude), but have you tried reducing the encryption levels, disabling mappings (audio, clipboard, etc...), and reducing the color level? Also, what are the clients using? If they have hard disks, increase your bitmap caches.

Also, is it just this one application (and what is JD Edwards, not MS Aaccess I hope)? What's the hardware running on the server, and how many users?

I have tried all the obvious things within Citrix like disabling audio, reducing the color. However I didn’t increase the bitmap cache. Is that done via an ini file or within PN? We have about 30 users spanned across 2 servers in a load balanced farm. The servers are dual xeon boxes with 2 GB of memory. The slowness is only with 5 users on the other side of the T1 only accessing JD Edwards.
