There seems to be a "difference of opinion" whethere or not a PC can be shutdown and still have Wake on Lan available. There's no problem with SMS Remote Tools waking a PC in stand by mode. I was hoping to have my PC's available at night for the SMS server to run its hardware/software inventories. Correct me if I'm wrong, but resources do not seem to be freed while in Stand By mode which overtime, still causes problems.

Is it possible to have the PC shut down and be ready for WOL assuming the LAN card still has power?

So S5 and S4 won't work...does Suspend free the resources that were being used?

We're starting to get pretty deep into some ACPI/BIOS stuff here. This is a hazy area for me, so you may want to find someone more skilled on this subject. I'm sure there's a forum here somewhere dedicated to this.

That being said, I would think that it will work for S4, but not S5. In addition, I don't see why the resources wouldn't be freed.

You're probably right with the "fuzzy". I was too concerned about SMS being able to do this and I lost track of the real problem.

Thanks for the replies.
