w98-oulook2000 hangs trying to connect to exchange5.5

I am installing a new p4 with 1gb ram win98 outlook2000 however when trying to connect to the exchange server it hangs (not responding) I can ping the server by ip address or name, I can copy files, outlook internet mail works if exchange service is removed.

Tried putting your servers IP address in your PC's hosts file and seeing what that does?
