Hey Ladies and Gents,

My cie is about ready to install 6-7 ML350/370 hp Proliant servers (RAID 1+0) with w2ksrv sp4 and i was wondering if any of you fine folks had any installation issues, warnings, or concerns you could share with me before i commit to the task.

Any advice will be apreciated,

Thanks all,

Simon

Simon, I have just deployed two ML370 (dual 2.8 Xeon) servers for our messaging and AD environment, and they are fine. In fact most of our smaller sites are running this type model server. Therefore you should have no issues

Hi,
You should have no worries with these models, as I use them all the time and we have installed about 40 in recent months in various roles. By contrast an IBM server has bellied up twice during a fresh install and will be going back.

Hello,
I did an upgrade from windows NT 4.0 to windows 2000 on my ML370. One critical step was to download and use the primer utility found on compaq's web site. It removes any incompatible drivers and gets your system ready for the new OS. If you are doing fresh installs though as stated above, you should be fine.

You should have no problems, I've used those seval times, as well as the old Compaq models with Win 2k with no problems.

If it's SmartStart assisted then there's no problem. Otherwise you have to download your RAID or SCSI controller driver and load it when the moment ask you to do so. Failure to do it, your system can't boot up:(.

Thanks every for your replies.

We have had no problem up to now.
They are ML 350 G3 single 2.8GB MHz cpu. We also purchased Smart Array 642 RAID Controllers that went up easily.

The upcoming installation of Oracle 9i promisses to make things "intersting" for me and my collegues!!

Thanks again for the feed back,

Simon
