W2k/XP Printing Problems on Terminal Services 1

We have a LAN with two terminal servers that people from outside can connect to us through. The terminal servers are using Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and most client computers also have W2k. These do not give us any problems.

However, there is an XP laptop that is being troublesome. It connects to teriminal server, but it cannot print from terminal server to its local printer. The laptop can print locally with no problems. Both the terminal servers and the laptop have the latest drivers for the printer in question, and the printer has been confirmed by tech support as being compatible with terminal servers, so I know it's not a compatibility issue. The drivers on ther terminal servers are listed as Windows 2000, while the drivers for the same pritner on the XP laptop are listed as Windows 2000/XP.

So what else could possibly prevent this laptop from printing from a terminal services session to its local printer?

hey there,

what kind of printer?
is that a USB printer? or a printer use LPT port?

terminal service by default works with local-attached-LPT printers.

The drivers on the TS have to match the drivers on the local system. Install the Windows 2000/XP drives on the TS.

How do I remove drivers from server properties? I keep getting "cannot be removed" because it is "currently in use".

I had the same problem. I have Two Windows 2000 Terminal Servers and using xp clients and they behaved the same way that your printers are. I am printing to a Canon network printer using lpr and the printer is installed locally on each client. I was already using lpt1 for something else so I was even trying to setup a second printer using lpt2 or 3 and then using the net use command to map to the locally shared printer. I still was not getting a connection. It wasn't until I set my Canon printer to LPT1, logon to Terminal Services (now the printer appears), logoff, then set my port to lpt2 and still using the net use command and now when I logon to Terminal Server I have my Canon printer as an option.
