I'm setting up a server in application mode to be used for remote clients. From what i have read, win 2k pro and xp desktops have a built-in license for terminal server. As long as i have valid CALs for W2K server i do not need additional licenses like you would with Win98, etc.

My one question is: do i need to enable the terminal licensing if i only have W2K or XP clients? And if i do, do i need to obtain information from the MS Site?

Thanks

i now for sure that xp has an build in licence i'm not sure about win2k.

for licensing you have to set up a licence server. you only need to connect to microsoft when you install licence packs.

Yes, you still need to active the TS License server. It will simply hand out "free" licenses to the XP and W2K users.

Thanks just wanted to verify that i was reading correctly. Not used to free license to do anything MS.

Take it easy

Don't worry, they "fixed" that in Server 2003...everything needs a CAL, regardless of OS.

it depends when you purchased windows XP or 2K, if you purchased it before win2k3 was released then you dont need to buy CAL's but if you purchased them after win2k3 was released then you need to purchase CAL's.

Hi!

Well, if you're using windows 2000 server then i imagine the 2K or XP machines can use it no problem. If you use 2003 then you would need to purchase the CALs for terminal server or am i missing something
