Hi

After installing SP3 on W2k, I installed my Emagic Audiowerk 2 soundcard. Although it shows as installed in device manager (no conflicts), I cannot select it in _sounds and Multimedia_ as an audio out or in option. Therefore, when I try to play a wav file with Windows Media Player, it says it says no soundcard installed. Anyone aware of a problem with SP3 that might have caused this?

Note: I have the latest driver for the soundcard installed, and it was OK before SP3.

Don't know anything specific to SP3 with regards to sound... Have you tried using a different PCI slot?

Yes, but it makes no difference. I see it thinks there is another soundcard installed. I don't have onboard sound, so I think it is part of the modem. It has

_modem #0 line playback _

in audio playback devices.

So in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds & Multimedia -> Audio tab, you can't change your preferred playback device to the Emagic card? How many audio devices show up in Device Mngr - can you disable the modem's playback device in Device Mngr?

Also, do you know whether or not that card's drivers are P&P? I'm not familiar enough with that brand to know.

Can disable the modem's playback but then have no preferred audio devices (greyed out). Supposedly p&p and have W2k driver for it. Noticed it is sharing an IRQ with USB Universal Host Controller. Manual suggests emagic needs own IRQ. Disabled USB thingy as I have no such devices. Now has own IRQ. Still doesn't cure after a restart. Found something on the web about IRQ steering which seems to reroute an IRQ in w2k but can't see how to turn that off for a test.
