When I try to boot it the system seems to hang on something about developing a network and then on computer configuration. It will stay ont eh configuration screen for up to two hours before it moves on to the desktop. All appears to be normal when it finishes.

Are you trying to log on to a domain? I've had a similar experience that was due to the absence of a domain controller nearby. It tried to go out over the WAN to find a domain controller that could authenticate my username on the network. Just a thought. In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

If you are indeed trying to log onto a domain and this is happening its because you dont have, a reverse lookup zone or have one misconfigured in DNS. I have seen this several times and most always configuring a reverse lookup and verifying that computer accounts are in AD and that the A records are present fixes it. All Complaints Will Be Routed To /dev/null

I do not think the PC is looking for a domain. If it is, it has to be a dial up and this is a stand alone in an office. I will verify that tomorrow and check the DNS settings. After the statement about network comes the "writing computer configuration" and that stays for a least an hour then all seems well.

Does this happen with only one user? If it's not the local admin, I would try deleting the profile and recreating it by logging back on. In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

There is nly one PCc and it is stand alone. It connects to the Internet via dial up.

How many people use that PC? Do they all have separate logins? Or is it just you and do you log in as Administrator? In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
