We've recently added a Windows 2000 server to our existing NT4 domain. Unfortunately, the new server is not visible in Network Neighborhood. In addition, the server shows up as greyed out (off line) in NT4 Server Manager.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did you configure the W2K server as stand alone or a member of the domain?

It was added to the domain during install. Also has the latest service pack. Resyncing from the NT4 PDC did not help.

Why don't you try to remove it from the domain and then re-join the domain again?

- form the 2k server, network identification > configure it as a member of a workgroup (any)
- from the PDC > Server manager > remove the account of the computer
- from the 2k server again configure it as a member of the domain.

That worked...though I have no idea why. Just one of those things. Thanks!

I am glad it worked, don't just ask why :)

maybe problems in the creatoin of the computer account in the domain.

Be cautious. If the 2K box is a domain controller and is running in mixed mode, it will automagically run a PDC emulator and screw up the domain.

you need to have file and print sharing installed on the w2k machine to be visible.
