Gigabyte GA-7ZXE, Duron 1.1Gb, 256Mb RAM, Videologic Vivid 32Mb, 40Gb IDE, Seagate IDE tape drive, Teac CD-ROM and Teac CD-Writer, Realtek NIC and Iwill 2930C SCSI card for scanner. Service Pack 2 is installed. Everything worked fine for a couple of months then customer reported the 3.5" floppy drive suddenly failed to show up in My Computer. It is now reported in Device Manager as having Error Code 31. This floppy works fine at the DOS level, and just for good measure has also been replaced together with a new ribbon cable. From within Device Manager the floppy can be uninstalled and then reinstalled, and it works! Reboot the machine and back to square one again with Error Code 31.

Any clues anyone?

Are you running the generic system board drivers provided by win2000 or are you using the drivers provided by Gigabyte? If you are not using the drivers from Gig. that are chipset specific try that.

Ok, thanks for that thought AutumnLord - when PC comes back into workshop again I'll check it out...
