Hi all,

I have installed EPSON LQ2170 in win'98 platform with share. I am accesing this printer from one of the W2K professional machine. This is the Default Printer In W2K machine. When i shut Down the Win'98 Machine, I am not able to view any reports using my Accounting System ( In Foxpro 2.6 ).
It says NTVDM.EXE generates an error, You want to Close / Ignore.

When i say Close, it closes my Applications. Even sometimes it closes the application without asking the option of ignore or cancel.

If the printer and machine(win'98 where the printer in installed ) is shut down, there is no problem with other OS.

Thanks.

Hi Murali

Your Win2K unit trying to look for the shared printer using the modem. And that is why you get an error. And in the process of the printer look up error, it appears the unit is freezing and misguiding you.

In reality, the unit is not freezing or your FP2.6 is not stalling.

Try the follwoing...
1. In your Win2K system, install a directr printer and make that your default Printer or SImply activate the built in FAX and set that as your default printer. This will make the default printer available to Win2K.

2. If you are starting your FP application after making a MAP to the shared printer always.. I suggest.. dont do that. Only when the printer is connected, try it by a separate icon and a batch file. So when a FP application is started, WIN2K does not search for the printer thru modem.

While I have given this as a solution,... some one here can help you.. how to avoid Win2K to look for a shared printer thru a modem, when you are sure it is in a LAN. I have done that somewhere but I dont remember off my head now. (Each OS does things in one one way !)

Hi Ramani,

Thanks of the reply. But.

1. What is direct printer, how can i installed that.It is available in the printer driver database.

2. If i make the FAX as the default printer, this will provide me with different paper settings, because our application reports will use different kind of paper for different report.

3. I am not making any MAP to the printer, i have installed this one as a network printer ( EPSON LQ 2170 ).

You can try installing the printer as local, and put a .bat file on your desktop named let's say "Print to Epson.bat" containing: 'net use lpt1: \\printsrv\epson'. You will also need a second .bat file named "Print locally.bat" with 'net use lpt1: /d'

Hi csandu00,

Thank a lot, i have done that. Now if computer is switched off, still i am able to see the reports etc..

Thanks u very much.

Murali.
